Michael Angarano & Melissa Benoist To Star In Jennifer Morrison’s ‘Sun Dogs’
EXCLUSIVE: Michael Angarano, Melissa Benoist, Allison Janney and Ed O’Neill have come aboard to star in Sun Dogs, the feature film directorial debut of Once Upon A Time star Jennifer Morrison that was penned by Anthony Tambakis (Warrior). Fabrica De Cine, which just closed a mega-deal in Cannes to produce and finance Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman, will co-finance Sun Dogs along with Caviar (Diary Of A Teenage Girl).
The comedy, the first for Morrison’s newly launched Apartment 3C Productions, will now kick off principal photography June 3 in Los Angeles. It follows a young misfit, Ned (Angarano), in his repeated failed attempts to join the Marines and serve his country. When his last interview fails, he takes a Marine officer’s advice to “protect the homefront” a little too seriously, and sets his sights on a casino manager who may or may not be a terrorist mastermind. In trying to uncover this “terrorist cell,” he enlists the help of a young runaway, Tally (Benoist), forming the most unlikely possible anti-terrorism unit in a story of love, friendship and homeland security.
Caviar’s Bert Hamelinck, Fabrica de Cine’s Gaston Pavlovich and Manu Gargi, Andrew Carlberg and Tambakis are producing. UTA Independent Film Group is repping domestic rights.
Morrison and Carlberg unveiled Apartment 3C in April, saying its first two projects in the pipeline were Sun Dogs and another Tambakis pic to be co-developed with him. Morrison and the scribe first worked together on Warrior, which Tambakis wrote and Morrison starred in alongside Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy.
Angarano is repped by UTA and Jackoway Tyerman; Benoist by UTA, Anonymous Content and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz; Janney by Gersh, Thruline and Nelson Davis; and O’Neill by Paradigm and Brillstein Entertainment.
